This is Jay. She’s here to inform you on the affects that birth control have on a woman’s body.

Everyone has heard of contraceptives before. Or even “birth control.” Many people, specifically women, may hav been taught to believe that “birth control” is safe and effective. Many people also may have been taught that birth control is the best option to avoid pregnancy while still being sexually active. However, not many people are informed on the true effects that it has on a woman’s body for years. There is way more to contraceptives than just preventing pregnancy. There are physical effects, such as the way a woman gains weight or sometimes even start growing chest and chin hair, and there are mental effects like trauma with balancing out new emotions. With new research coming to light on how different types of contraceptives affect a woman’s body long term, I will help bring awareness to the negatives of this “safe choice.”

The main article that we will focus on in this video will  be “How the Pill Became a Lifestyle Drug: The Pharmaceutical Industry and Birth Control in the United States Since 1960” by Elizabeth Siegel Watkins.

We will focus on three main points in this video. The first will be Types of Contraceptives, the second will be Old Data, and the third will be Accidental Pregnancies.

In this article ( Watkins E. ) , it states that  “ These days, choosing a form of birth control can seem as daunting as shopping for a new laptop computer- the technology is constantly changing and there are just so many options.” Here’s a video of the different types :

The second point will be Old Data. According to the article (Watkins E.) , “ a closer inspection of the contraceptive landscape reveals on a menu of birth control options that relies on science that is more than fifty years old.”

The final point is Accidental Pregnancies. Based on the article (Watkins E.) , “ Half of 1.5 million abortions in the US every year were performed to deal with pregnancies resulting from birth control failure. “

In conclusion, based on article 2 ( Jack T. ) , the group of women discontinuing hormonal and invasive birth control is growing in the US.” I highly believe that this is because of the ineffectiveness and affects that it has on a woman’s body.
