Project 6: Motion Graphic Style Frames

Project Overview

Click to download the assets for Project 6.

For this project, you will create a series of six (6) style frames that will portray the art direction for an animated explainer video (a motion graphic) for a brand.

You will be given scripts for three different brands, and you will need to choose one and use the information provided in that brand’s client brief and brand identity to develop and create the style frames for their motion graphic. Each of the six individual style frames should portray one of the key visuals/moments in the script.

The three brands are:

Bermuda – A startup company that helps boat owners rent their boats when they aren’t using them.

Mombi – A competitor to Google. They make an e-mail app, a calendar app, and a maps application.

Veruna – A non-profit organization that tries to find ways of using technology to solve the world’s clean water crisis.

The Process

You should begin by looking over the three brands and decide which brand you want to create the style frames for.

Use your brand’s script to brainstorm and create a visual script using the provided example as a guide.

Choose the moments in the script you want your style frames to portray and begin sketching ideas for each of those frames using the storyboard template.

After refining and iterating your initial sketches a few times, you should have a set of rough storyboards.

Scan the rough storyboards and bring them into Illustrator as a reference to build the final style frames.

Build the style frames based off of your storyboards.

The Deliverable

You will turn in six (6) individual style frames and one additional page that features them all on the same page in a grid. The dimensions of each style frame should be 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels tall. Your style frames should be turned in as a single PDF document, in the order that they would appear in the motion graphic.
