Gobble, gobble, it’s finally here the holiday season; this week was particularly short, with most of the students only having a final class on Tuesday due to the Thanksgiving break. Although it can be argued against, I think this is a nice breath of fresh air before finals week. A chance to breathe or catch up before the final push.

During the class on Tuesday, the objective was to peer edit an exported video file of the Unit Three Project. This, of course, would be the rough cut for the final project and a  chance to get new ideas from colleagues and go into the break with a fresh perspective. The challenge I think most of us face is using the Premier Pro as it is a challenging software to get the hang of; I myself have had multiple conversations with the media center professionals.

After Tuesday, my family kicked into holiday gear, beginning with the prep of the turkey for Thanksgiving. Starting on Wednesday, my father insists on a wet brine. As we set the turkey aside for Thursday, we got out the Christmas decorations and transformed 241 riverside drive into a winter wonderland; from lights on the roof to inflatable Santa in the yard, everything my mother wanted was done. Inside, the home was just as eventful with a fresh-cut tree with ornaments and tinsel as well as garland strung across the room, in mother words “do you think it looks Christmasy enough?” with a reassured yes from the family, the house was set for guests.

The Duell Thanksgiving takes two stages. The first is an appetizer festival with old family friends where oysters are roasted on an open fire, and finger food is passed around. After the first stage, we lead into the house and sit around the massive foldable table that is used exactly twice a year, once for Thanksgiving and the second for Christmas. Then the feast is delivered with food for twenty, even though it’s only ten, welcome to the south. After dinner, which can take multiple hours, the friends and family sip by the fire and fellowship about days passed.

On Friday, with the sports channel buzzing, Carolina faces the secondary rival NC State. Although the blue pride ran through us all, even though the worst fear of Carolina fans came true, we put up a fight to the end. To add to the letdown UNC who is ranked number one in basketball, goes and losses to Indiana, the end of the Semester must be getting to our players, as it was not a good week for Carolina sports.

Saturday and Sunday, for me at least, was spent hunkering down and prepping for exams and refocusing my mental state to bring home this Semester. To relax, I enjoyed watching a movie with a friend and settling into the idea of a hard seven days ahead. It is the final week of class and exams for me, so although my nerves are shot, and my blood pressure is high, I’m ready to finally end this Semester looking forward to a fresh start in the Spring.
