In order to practice different types of writing styles across genres and modalities, this course incorporates a running blog in which students reflect on their experiences in ENGL 105; these posts are categorized on this site as “Weekly Reflections.”

Each student is responsible for composing, proofreading, polishing, and posting a single blog post to this blog throughout the semester. Each student has been randomly assigned one of the sixteen weeks this term.

These posts should reflect on the ENGL 105 work students have done during the past week, including work both within and outside of the classroom, addressing such questions as: What have you done? What have you learned/practiced? What project are you currently working on? How is it going? Students are also instructed to consider the feedback they are receiving on their writing projects and to consider what aspects of their process/approach to writing is (or isn’t) working well.

Ideally, these posts should be more than a narration of what students are doing; students are encouraged to reflect on their experiences, what they’re learning, and how they’re growing as a writer, a student, and a person.

Ultimately, each student’s course blog post is their chance to have a voice in the overall story of our semester together. By the end of the semester, each student will have contributed to an ongoing and cumulative narrative of our semester. This is also their chance to reflect upon their growth as a writer and researcher and articulate such reflections.

For more information, see the Course Blog Post Assignment Prompt.

And of course, be sure to read the weekly reflections from the students, which create a cumulative narrative of our semester together. In the menu for “Categories,” choose “Weekly Reflections” and look for the appropriate section to access their reflections, or you can just click here for Section 054 and click here for Section 065.
