Graduate students and post-doctoral fellows are eligible to hold leadership roles within the administrative team. The administrative team goals is to plan and execute department-wide initiatives and provide support to our committees to execute their goals.

Responsibilities of Admin Team Members are as follows:

  • Lead Joint Safety Team admin meetings (held once per month throughout the academic school year)
  • Speak on behalf of the Joint Safety Team at departmental meetings, such as the State of the Dept Address
  • Meet semesterly with the Dept head to voice safety-related concerns and initiatives within the Chemistry Dept.
  • Works with faculty, staff, and graduate student representatives to draft semesterly goals and guides general initiatives of the JST

  • Provide support to the President in their tasks
  • Gradually transition into roles currently held by the President, as their term comes to an end
  • Serve in the President’s place to lead meetings and/or at speaking events, in the case of their absence
  • Works with faculty and graduate student representatives to draft semesterly goals and guides general initiatives of the JST

  • Take detailed notes at admin meetings & email these notes to admin team members
  • Coordinate the scheduling of meetings each semester
  • Send out reminder emails to JST members for meetings and events
  • Work with UNC Communications to send out emails to the department and incorporate JST events into the weekly newsletter

  • Work with the Carolina Union to manage our organization’s bank account and aid in associated purchases
  • Be responsible for holding the organization’s purchasing card and aid in associated purchases
  • Support committees in drafting small grants (e.g., departmental Say Yes funds and ACS grants)
  • Facilitate communication with administrative staff and the JST admin team

  • Manages the organization’s email and listserv accounts
  • Point-of-contact for the organization’s website and its contents. Updates content as needed and manages forms using WordPress
  • Runs the Joint Safety Team social media accounts

  • Leads a team of sub-committee members in education and outreach-based initiatives
  • Attends JST admin committee meetings to report their progress, give feedback, and request further support
  • Works alongside admin team & committee members to draft small grant proposals through the departmental Say Yes fund and local ACS chapters
  • Initiatives in the past have included:
    • Production and distribution of safety moments to the department
    • Production and distribution of safety videos to the department

  • Leads a team of sub-committee members in education and outreach-based initiatives
  • Attends JST admin committee meetings to report their progress, give feedback, and request further support
  • Works alongside admin team & committee members to draft small grant proposals through the departmental Say Yes fund and local ACS chapters
  • Initiatives in the past have included:
    • Production and distribution of the departmental safety culture survey
    • Production and distribution of infographics, such as a “where to go in the case of a medical emergency” poster

  • Facilitate the building of industry partnerships with local companies and organizations
  • Lead the scheduling and logistics of industry partnership seminars
  • Organize departmental opportunities to bridge departmental safety and industrial safety
