All new sites will have “tarheels.live” as part of their web address (ex:tarheels.live/sitename). If you create a university-sponsored website on TarHeels.live, you may wish to request an alternative subdomain.
To qualify for a custom domain on the TarHeels.live network (unc.edu, *.org, *.net or any domain that is being used for University related business), you’ll need to:
- Build your website using the Heelium theme or an approved Full Site Editing theme like Twenty Twenty-Four. (Other themes may not qualify for a *unc.edu domain);
- familiarize yourself with digital accessibility and website assessment process;
- demonstrate that your website represents the work of the university;
- ensure that your website shows ownership and purpose to exhibit the site’s trustworthiness;
- submit your website to the Digital Accessibility Office to initiate the assessment process;
- pledge to attend accessibility training offered by the Digital Accessibility Office.
- attest that the website is and will remain in compliance with WCAG 2.2 AA as required by UNC Digital Accessibility Standards.
