Now that you have had an overview, you are asked to download the AI Checklist and complete it based on your context and work.

A few key elements to consider before completing it:

  1. There is a wide and ever-growing number of generative AI tools. While the tools can have multiple uses, make sure you select a tool with the functionalities necessary to complete a task.
  2. Do not feel pressured to rank yourself highly for all the tasks on this checklist. Developing the skill set needed to complete the tasks takes time. Start with your current skill set and think about how it could be expanded by using generative AI to complete other tasks.
  3. This checklist can be used individually or with a team. If it is used individually, you are focusing on yourself and your own work. However, if it is used with a team, it can demonstrate the strengths of the team along with ways for using generative AI as part of your team’s collective work.
  4. Generative AI is continuing to evolve. This checklist and set of professional development modules were created during the summer of 2023, when generative AI was becoming a prominent but still emerging technology. Depending on the time and tools available when you complete this checklist, it may change your responses.
  5. This checklist is not a “one-and-done” activity. With the expected growth of generative AI along with your own abilities for using it, your skills will likely continue to grow over time. Consider the checklist you do today as a baseline. Then, in the future, return to this checklist on a semesterly or annual basis to chart your progress and growth!
  6. Have students complete the checklist. While not all the dimensions may align with the way they will use generative AI, the checklist may provide them with some ideas and ways to integrate AI into their academic, professional, and personal lives.

After reading these considerations, it is now your turn to complete the checklist. While you will not be asked to share it as part of this module, do make sure you save it, especially if you want to return to it in the future!
