Common Core State Standards: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.G.A.3

Partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, a third of, etc., and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths. Recognize that equal shares of identical wholes need not have the same shape.

Objective

  • Students will view a 360° video and find halves, quarters, and thirds of shapes in the video.

Recommended Teaching Strategy

Example 360° Learning Experience

Show students the recommended video and ask them to name the shapes they can see. Teachers record the shapes they see where all students can see. In their math journal or with the attached worksheet, students should find the given shapes in the video, and then draw lines to cut each shape in half, into quarters, and into thirds.

For example, a student could identify the constellation Triangulum as a triangle. In the graphic organizer, the student can find the triangle, then draw lines on each example to cut the triangle in half, then into quarters, then thirds.
