3. Aligning Your Content & Selecting 360° Videos

Getting Started Activity: Select an Academic Standard

As public school educators, we are required to teach academic standards, and states can create their own standards or adopt them from another organization. While many states have adopted the Common Core State Standards, some have not. The image on the left shows which states have currently adopted the Common Core State Standards. If your state has not adopted them, use the image below that one to search for your state’s Department of Education. From there, you will be able to locate their website.

Next, we want you to pick a standard to use as an example. This should be a standard that you understand and would feel comfortable planning a lesson for teaching it.

  • If your state uses the Common Core State Standards, you can access all the anchor standards for English Language Arts and Methods on this document. You can choose an anchor standard or one specific to the grade level standard and subject area you teach.
  • If your state has its own standards, please refer to its list of standards and choose a specific one for the grade level and subject area you teach.

Because you’ll be working with this standard throughout this section, please make sure you record it in a convenient place.

Now that you have your standard, let’s turn our attention to writing objectives for it. In this video, you’ll get an overview of writing objectives and then you’ll have an opportunity to write an objective for your standard!

After watching the video, we want you to write an objective for the standard you selected. Below is an example of an art standard in the state of North Carolina. Please draft your objective by completing the third column in the chart.

Padlet for Share Out for Standards, Objectives, and 360° Content

To complete this activity, we want to see your standard, objective, and a piece of 360° content you will use to teach. At this point, you already have your standard and objective, so it’s time to visit the 360° Exchange’s Database and select a piece of content. Go ahead and visit the database and select your content. Remember, to complete this activity, you’ll need to download it using the “direct download” link, which is located on the bottom left of the screen where the content is entered. Once downloaded, add your entry to the Padlet on the left. For your title, type the content area and grade level for the standard and objective. Then, in the body of your entry, include the standard and objective you wrote for it. Under that, upload the file of the 360° video you selected and then publish it!
