Tell and write time from analog and digital clocks to the nearest five minutes, using a.m. and p.m.

Objective

  • Students will view a 360° video and identify the times that clocks are displaying.

Recommended Teaching Strategy

Example 360° Learning Experience

Conduct a number talk using the corresponding video, and the following questions can help guide the discussion:

  • What are the differences between all the clocks? How can we tell time if they use a number system we are unfamiliar with or no numbers at all?
  • What number does the minute hand on the big clock above the door point to?
  • What time is displayed on the small clock next to the door?
  • How could we read a clock if the minute hand doesn’t land perfectly on a number? What strategies can we use?

Students can record drawings of different clocks displaying various times in their math journals after the group discussion.
