- View a 360° video and model adding and subtracting 5 in a math journal.
Recommended Teaching Strategy
Example 360° Learning Experience
Show students the recommended video below and ask them to say where they can see a group of 5 pumpkins. The most obvious one will be the group on the left side of the bench. Ask students what would happen if one of those pumpkins was removed. Record 5-1=4. Continue modeling subtraction, eventually working up through addition, all the way to 5+0=5. Students can use manipulatives, such as unit cubes and a 5-frame, to model the equations. Have students record their equations (or drawings of their manipulatives) in their math journals.
