Over the last half century, the state has transformed from an economy primarily focused on agriculture production and manufacturing to one boasting multiple sectors with strengths ranging from the traditional areas of agriculture and textile and furniture manufacturing to cutting-edge health care, biotechnology, finance, and computer software industries. Ensuring the continued viability and vitality of this diverse economy means providing North Carolinians aspiring to enter these sectors the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in their work and drive these industries into the future.
NCEFI is committed to fostering a bright economic future for North Carolina by ensuring the quality of the state’s education system and its programs to train the next generation of workers in high-demand areas. NCEFI affiliates are currently engaged in research projects investigating the quality and character of our state’s K-16 STEM pipeline and the continuously evolving skill and training demands of the state’s economy.
