Educating the next generation of citizens and workers is among the most important functions of state government. Though North Carolina’s K-12 education system has made strides in both quality and equity in recent decades, there is still considerable room for improvement. In too many parts of the state, the quality of opportunities available to students is uneven and, worse, this variation tracks racial and socioeconomic differences in our communities.

NCEFI is committed to ensuring all North Carolina students have access to the highest quality schools and educational opportunities. To that end, NCEFI affiliates are engaged in several research projects to study disparities produced by existing K-12 policies; identify how to make the most of the resources currently available to K-12 schools; and determine how best to target new investments.
