4. Teaching the 360° Learning Experience
4. Aligning Your Content & Selecting 360° Videos
Getting Started Activity: Reflecting on Engaging Teaching
In the previous modules, we focused on the technology and content needed to create a 360° learning experience. In this module, we are going shift our focus to the pedagogy, or teaching strategies, used to facilitate student learning, and we want to start by asking you to reflect on a time when you experienced a quality learning experience. Do you recall a time when a teacher’s lesson deeply engaged you in the content being taught? Or, think back to a lesson that you or a colleague taught that had all the students actively sharing and learning together in a community. What was happening in the classroom during those moments?
In those lessons, the teachers used specific strategies to make the content meaningful to their students, and those strategies may have included project-based learning, connecting content to authentic scenarios, inquiry-focused lessons, collaborative assignments, and even innovative uses of technologies.
In the Tricider on the left, we would like you to share a pedagogical strategy that you use or plan to use with your students for engaging them in your subject area’s content. In your post, please include the name of the strategy on the left along with a short description. On the right, use the + to share a time you have used or have seen this strategy in action. Use the – if you have a question or concern about the strategy.
Focusing on Pedagogy for Creating 360° Learning Experiences
Quality instruction requires a deep understanding of the context where the learning will take place along with the technologies available for teaching the content. When creating 360° learning experiences, it is important to use pedagogical strategies, such as the ones listed on the Tricider board from above. However, the teaching strategies also need to ensure they maximize the learning possibilities that come with using 360° media. This video will provide you with pedagogical ideas for using 360° videos and images for that purpose.
In addition, we’ve included a glossary of pedagogical strategies we use when designing 360° learning experiences.
Share Out
For this activity, we are asking you to share some pedagogical ideas for how you would teach a piece of content shared from the prior module. to complete this activity, please return to the Padlet from Module 3 (also on the left), and browse the posts for one that interests you based on the objective and 360° media. When you find one of interest, click the “add a comment” option located at the bottom of the post, and in a few sentences, describe the pedagogical strategy you would use for teaching that piece of content.
