Common Core State Standard: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.G.B.3
Understand that attributes belonging to a category of two-dimensional figures also belong to all subcategories of that category. For example, all rectangles have four right angles and squares are rectangles, so all squares have four right angles.
Common Core State Standard: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.G.B.4
Classify two-dimensional figures in a hierarchy based on properties.
Objective
- Students will view a 360° video, identify shapes within the video, and then compare and contrast the geometric properties of those shapes using Venn diagrams.
Example 360° Learning Experience
Show students the video, navigating around so they get a sense of the scene. Students will complete the graphic organizer by first deciding if any of the shapes in the video fit the criteria for each category. (The categories can be edited based on what your students need to practice identifying.) Once they identify enough shapes, they can draw shapes that fall into the correct category in either Venn diagram.
For example, a student could identify a window as a rectangle and draw a rectangle in the closed + 4-sided section of the Venn diagram.
Once students complete the diagrams, they can check their work by comparing it with a peer’s work during a think-pair-share matchup.
