Common Core State Standards: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.MD.A.1
Order three objects by length; compare the lengths of two objects indirectly by using a third object.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.MD.A.2
Express the length of an object as a whole number of length units, by laying multiple copies of a shorter object (the length unit) end to end; understand that the length measurement of an object is the number of same-size length units that span it with no gaps or overlaps. Limit to contexts where the object being measured is spanned by a whole number of length units with no gaps or overlaps.
Objective
- Students will view a 360° video and compare the lengths of different items shown in the video.
Recommended Teaching Strategy
Example 360° Learning Experience
Show students the recommended video and ask them to name the items they can see. Record the items they see, organizing them by height. Students and the teacher can scroll around the video to observe all the objects that can be measured. Students then complete the recommended worksheet below using a ruler or unit cubes to measure the length of 3 different items found in the video. As a class, organize the lengths of the objects from shortest to tallest.
