Common Core State Standard: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.MD.B.3
Classify objects into given categories; count the numbers of objects in each category and sort the categories by count.
Objective
- View a 360° video and classify the objects in the scene by position, color, or size, then sort the categories from largest to smallest.
Recommended Teaching Strategy
Example 360° Learning Experience
Show the video to the whole class, navigating through so students can process the entire scene. Explain that they will be using manipulatives (unit cubes, counting bears, candy corn) to record the number of pumpkins in the video. Pick categories for the students to sort the pumpkins into like size (small, medium, large), position (bottom, middle, top shelf), or color (orange or white), to name a few. Students should sort their manipulatives accordingly. Once all of the manipulatives are sorted, ask students which group has the most or least amount of manipulatives. Students should then order their groups from largest to smallest amounts.
