Common Core State Standard: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.OA.A.3

Decompose numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one way, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record each decomposition by a drawing or equation (e.g., 5 = 2 + 3 and 5 = 4 + 1).

Objective

  • View a 360° video and use manipulatives and a graphic organizer to model decomposing numbers between 5 and 10.

Recommended Teaching Strategy

Example 360° Learning Experience

Show the video below to the whole class, navigating through it so students can view the entire scene. Have students use 5-10 manipulatives, such as counting bears or unit cubes, to model adding or subtracting items from the video. Record the decompositions in number bubbles in a place all students can see. Students can then record their decompositions on the worksheets below. The worksheets are editable and differentiated for student independence.
