Common Core State Standard: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.OA.A.1
Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.OA.A.2
Solve word problems that call for addition of three whole numbers whose sum is less than or equal to 20, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Objective
- View a 360° video and create a word problem for a friend using content found in the video.
Recommended Teaching Strategy
Example 360° Learning Experience
Have students view and navigate through the video individually. Have them select a group of objects to count. They will use this number to fill out the graphic organizer.
Some examples include:
- If I add 4 more blocks to the yellow stack on the right side of the grid, how many yellow blocks will there be altogether?
- If I take away 2 blocks from the dark blue stack on the right side of the grid, how many dark blue blocks will be left?
- How many blocks are there in the “graph” on the right side of the grid?
- If I take 7 blocks away from the dark blue “S” how many will be left?
- How many more red bins need to be added for there to be 10 bins altogether?
For an extra challenge, students can create word problems with 3 numbers, having their partner solve for any unknown.
Once they decide on their problem, have them complete the graphic organizer, linked below.
