Next Generation Science Standard: MS-LS2-4

Construct an argument supported by empirical evidence that changes to physical or biological components of an ecosystem affect populations.

Objective

  • Students will view a 360° video, define the benefits of a forest ecosystem, and identify man-made and natural changes that can occur in the environment.

Recommended Teaching Strategy

Example 360° Learning Experience

First, remind students of the benefits of a forest ecosystem for both humans and other organisms. As a class, brainstorm the ways that humans can have positive and negative impacts on the forest. Then, show students the 360° video (either as a class or on 1:1 technology) and instruct them to look for ways human interaction can impact the environment in the video.

Students will then meet with their partners and compare their lists of positive and negative human impacts they can see or infer from the video. Partners or small groups can then share the similarities and differences they found with their lists. As a class, make a list of the impacts found.
