Common Core Standard: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RH.6-8.7

Integrate visual information (e.g., in charts, graphs, photographs, videos, or maps) with other information in print and digital texts.

Objective

  • Students will be able to view a 360° video and describe the differences between Democratic-Republicans and Federalists.

Recommended Teaching Strategy

Example 360° Learning Experience

Students will look at Monticello and make notice of the surrounding farmland and infer what it tells us about Jefferson’s social, economic, and political perspectives (and desire for the nation). In addition, students can make further comparisons to Alexander Hamilton’s background in New York City, a booming metropolis during the development of the new government.

Democratic-Republicans and Federalists Parties were formed on the basis of two competing ideals for national identity. These were based on the lived experiences and differences socially, politically, and economically between the North and South.

After students view the video, they will complete a graphic organizer on notices from the video and how that aligned with Democratic-Republican beliefs, and how that contrasted to Federalist beliefs.
