CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RH.9-10.6: Compare the point of view of two or more authors for how they treat the same or similar topics, including which details they include and emphasize in their respective accounts.

Objective

Students will compare the points of view of two texts that are focused on the same topic to determine the way each author treats topic.

Example 360° Learning Experience

Teachers select a 360° image or video of a historical place or event along with at least two texts that describe the place or event. To begin, teachers have students view the image to build their background knowledge of the topic. Next, the students read the two texts and complete a Venn diagram to compare the perspectives fo the authors and the details they provided about the place or event. When finished, students can share their ideas as part of a larger class discussion.

The topic of this Venn diagram is Edgar Allan Poe’s time as a student at the University of Virigina, and how Poe’s time at UVA is describe in these two texts.
