When reading about segregation and public transportation, Rosa Parks is often used as a prominent example to illustrate the issue. In addition, teachers can have students read this text about the “Black Bus Stop” at The University of Virginia to learn more about its origins and legacy. While reading the text, teachers can ask students questions such as:
- What purpose does the Black Bus Stop serve to students at the University of Virginia?
- What might it have been like for a student to see other students gathering at the Black Bus Stop?
- How do you see the Black Bus Stop serving the community in present day and in the future?
