Common Core State Standard: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.L.6
Acquire and use accurately a range of general academic and domain-specific words and phrases sufficient for reading, writing, speaking, and listening at the college and career readiness level; demonstrate independence in gathering vocabulary knowledge when encountering an unknown term important to comprehension or expression.
Objective
Students will describe a connection they identify between a piece of subject-area content and a 360° video or image.
360° Learning Experience
Teachers pick a 360° video or image that represents a piece of subject-area content. For example, the content could be an animal, structure, or technique of some kind. In response, students view the 360° video or image and explain what they are viewing in writing and/or orally using disciplinary language that is appropriate for their grade level. (Teachers can modify this activity by offering students a word bank or key terms that they need to use while describing the object.) For example, if students are viewing an example of a character struggling to make a decision, students could label the situation as being an “internal conflict” and then explain their rationale for selecting that term.

Example of Connection
After reading the lyrics of “How Ya Gonna Keep ‘Em Down on the Farm?” by Nora Bayes in 1919, teachers can ask: How does the 360° video of the farm below connect to the song? A sample student response is:
In relation to Baye’s song, the video of The Farm shows a farmer feeding his chickens. In Bayes’ song, she highlights how magnificent sights like Paris (or Paree) and New York’s Broadway are compared to the work that takes place on the farm, such as feeding chickens. Bayes’ goes on to question if people who have seen such sights will have any interest or longing to remain on the farm, as shown in the 360° video. The connection then is that the video highlights the mundaneness of farm life compared to the extravagance of cities.
