Common Core State Standards (ELA/Literacy): CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.3

Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, well-chosen details and well-structured event sequences.

Objective

Students will describe an element using descriptive writing

Example 360° Learning Experience

Teachers choose a 360° image or video and provide students with an opportunity to explore it. Next, teachers instruct students to identify one element in the image or video, such as a specific object, movement, or person. Teachers then ask students to describe that element in a certain number of words . For students who are beginning to learn descriptive writing techniques, teachers can ask them to write individual sentences, with each sentence using adjectives, alliteration, and other figurative language to describe the image. For students who have experience with figurative language, teachers can increase the rigor of this activity by having them embed their use of figurative language within a poetic structure, like a haiku.
