ULTRASONC offers world-renowned pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training opportunities.

Our pre-doctoral trainees have access to a uniquely wide array of specialized courses that are accessible to all ULTRASONC graduate students through an established inter-institutional course exchange program. Similarly, our trainees’ graduate committees may be comprised of any of our many ULTRASONC faculty to create bodies of expertise that are precisely matched to our students’ research pursuits.

Both pre-doctoral and post-doctoral trainees benefit from plentiful opportunities for interdisciplinary mentorship and collaboration, both within ULTRASONC and extending across our associated engineering, medicine, and basic science departments. Our laboratories include start-of-the-art ultrasound equipment, and ready access to physician-scientists and patients facilitates clinical translation. Finally, robust support for technology commercialization is provided by our institutions and the nearby Research Triangle Park.

The Unified Medical Ultrasound Technology Development (UNMUTED) NIH T32 pre-doctoral T32 training program exploits ULTRASONC’s distinct ultrasound expertise, access to clinical collaboration, and resources for commercial translation to prepare the next generation of ultrasound engineers to meet the most vital healthcare needs.
