2024 Competition

2024 Triangle Brain Bee Competition

When: Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, 1:00 – 3:00 pm

Where: UNC’s MBRB Auditorium, Room G-202
Medical Biomolecular Research Building (MBRB) Auditorium
Address: 111 Mason Farm Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27514

Parking: We recommend parking in Dogwood Deck, which will cost ~$8.

12:30-1:00     Contestants check-in

1:00-1:15       Competition Introduction

1:15-1:45       Keynote Speaker, Dr. Jessica Flannery at UNC

                           Talk Title: Reward-Seeking Behaviors in Teens

1:45-2:00       Break/Prep for Brain Bee

                           *light snacks provided

2:00-2:45       Brain Bee Competition

2:45-3:00       Awards Ceremony, Final Remarks, & Photos

*Note: Awards may be announced sooner if the competition  ends earlier than 2:45pm.

Brain Bee Format: Questions will be based on our virtual content and the BrainFacts book. Questions will be free-response format in three rounds. The TBB moderator will read each question aloud and contestants will write their responses on a whiteboard. Contestants will show their answer to our panel of judges (graduate students and postdocs) who keep score for each participant.

  1. Round 1: Contestants will answer all questions in this round and will be eliminated if they incorrectly answer three or more questions.
  2. Round 2: Contestants will answer all questions in this round and will be eliminated if they incorrectly answer two or more questions.
  3. Round 3: Eliminations will occur after each question. Therefore, contestants will be eliminated once they incorrectly answer one question.

Prizes:

  • 1st Place: $$$ gift card + advance onto 2024 National Brain Bee
  • 2nd Place: $$ gift card
  • 3rd Place: $ gift card
  • Everyone: t-shirts, brain stress balls…

2024 USA National Brain Bee Championship Information:

When: April 19th – 21st

Where: University of Central Florida

Registration for the 2024 USA Brain Bee Championship will open on April 1st.  The winner of our location competition will be able to register after our local competition.  All participants and their chaperones must register. Registration fees and housing fees have not been announced, but you are welcome to check the website above for updates!

Note: Due to funding, we will not be able to cover registration or travel costs associated with the 2024 National Brain Bee. 

 

2024 International Brain Bee Championship Information:

When: October 2024
