Who we are
We are a group of students and staff at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill who host an annual neuroscience competition for high schoolers. Triangle Brain Bee is a local chapter of The International Brain Bee, whose mission is to motivate teenagers to learn about the brain and pursue neuroscience-related careers.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Triangle Brain Bee serves students from local North Carolina high schools. Our charge is to construct an environment that is inclusive of underrepresented populations within the sciences, including women, racial/ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities, individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, and the LGBTQ+ community.
Our purpose is to…
- Incite excitement surrounding neuroscience and STEM;
- Promote awareness about collegiate and career pathways in neuroscience;
- Provide knowledge and mentorship;
- Provide career and professional development opportunities for psychology and neuroscience graduate students;
- Create a venue for high school students to apply newly acquired neuroscience knowledge by competing in the Triangle Brain Bee competition;
- Extend financial scholarship for the high school student winner of Triangle Brain Bee to compete at the National Brain Bee competition
What we do
We recruit and tutor high school students on neuroscience-related topics and then host an annual Brain Bee competition.
Tutoring sessions will occur monthly from October through February, with our third annual Brain Bee competition in March 2024! Graduate students, postdocs, and undergraduate students will lead these tutoring sessions. Below is a timeline that will be updated as dates become available:
