Jason Reed lab

Welcome to the Reed lab.  We study how plants integrate endogenous and environmental signals to regulate their growth and development.  We aim to understand growth control at multiple levels, from the cell biological mechanisms by which cells expand to how growth is apportioned among different organs in the whole plant.  One longstanding interest is how the hormone auxin promotes flower maturation, the coordinated rapid organ growth and differentiation that occur as flowers open.  We also study how the large family of SAUR (Small Auxin Up RNA) genes promote growth or other cell biological processes.  Discoveries in these areas may lead to understanding and controlling useful traits in plants, such as allocating growth to desired organs.

If you are interested to contribute to our research efforts, please contact Jason Reed at jreed@email.unc.edu.  We value and respect the talents, perspectives and opinions of people of diverse identities deriving from race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, nationality or other factors.

We are above the main entrance to Coker Hall.
