The purpose of this site is to be a resource for UNC faculty who support academic freedom and where they can discuss this important topic.

The What Is Academic Freedom? page contains definitions, links to foundational documents on academic freedom and some history on the development of academic freedom.

The UNC Resolutions and Contacts page contains relevant faculty and trustee resolutions on academic freedom as well as the contact information of UNC administrators responsible for academic freedom.

The Outside Organizations page contains links to organizations that support academic freedom.

The Viewpoints and Discussion page offers articles on academic freedom along with the opportunity for posting your own thoughts (just send me an email and I’ll post it) or commenting on articles.

The Research on Academic Freedom page has research on both faculty and student free expression, including research on UNC undergrads completed in 2022 and 2019.
