The name of the game is consistency. Now that the first six weeks of the semester have finally finished we have been able to take a step back and breathe, having conquered the first wave of midterms. But, unluckily for me, not so much. Week six was my second week of midterms; however, going into week seven I have another marked in my calendar. I unfortunately only have a small break in between this midterm and the second wave coming, as professors try to squeeze in lessons and material before sending their students off into spring break.
Spring break seems like an oasis in the middle of a desert, and I am beyond ready to take a dip. I want nothing more than to be home with my parents, friends, and pets; however, I just have to keep pushing until the day comes. This is consistency. Consistency is being able to trust the process and keep moving forward although we may not want to. Even when times are rough and motivation is low, consistency is what drives us forward. Staying consistent enables us to achieve our goals because as each day passes we are one step closer to achieving them.
Consistency is within our classroom as each of us is hard at work: learning, creating, and revising our UP1 Projects on Adobe Premiere Pro. Having such powerful software like Premiere Pro within our fingertips is amazing, and I am really enjoying learning to use the software and can already see myself utilizing this program with future endeavors outside of the classroom setting. I am unsure whether my classmates feel the same because the program has been frustrating at times, but nevertheless, I’ve enjoyed it. Consistency is what is driving us forward since we’ve been able to consistently continue to turn in project work on time allowing us to allocate class time for revisions.
Consistency is what advances not only our ENGL-105I class when finalizing our UP1 Projects, but also the UNC women’s basketball team over their clutch 66-65 win over #3 ranked Lousiville. No matter the score, cheering from the fans, the team stayed consistent and true to their roots and coaching which enabled them to ultimately succeed and pull out the win against Louisville. Like the women’s basketball team, we stayed consistent when working on our projects, whether that was keeping track of deadlines, editing our script, changing aspects of our video, or just learning how to use video editing software.
It was crunch time. This was the deciding week for whether or not UP1 was going to hang over our heads and keep us in a state of despair as its deadline closed in. However, with consistent work, the projects went smoothly. Throughout the week, on both Tuesday and Thursday during class time my classmates and I utilized our short time together to revise and edit our projects with help and collaboration. We often break into small groups or even pairs to edit and provide each other with feedback, hoping to give the other an edge for the next step in the process. Personally, I have had a hard time condensing and organizing my information into the project without my video spanning over thirteen minutes in length, which is six minutes over the recommended length. However, with the provided class time attributed to editing and revising our projects, I was able to rectify my issue with the help and collaboration of classmates and cut it back nearly five minutes. Exercises such as these have been especially fruitful in my path to becoming a stronger writer in ENGL-105I, and I hope to further my knowledge through consistency which will guide and aid me through this course.
