James’s Trip to London with Ava and Christian Posted on June 23, 2022 by ivwright After arriving in London at 11:00 AM on Friday the 17th, we first headed to the Queen’s Castle to take some pictures and decide what our plan was for the trip! Next, we decided to walk towards Big Ben and as we were traveling there, we passed by the London Eye and took a photo with it and the beautiful river that it towers over. Once getting to Big Ben, we took several pictures and admired all of the structures surrounding it. After Big Ben, we walked around more and heading to The Underground to travel to our sleeping quarters. Fortunately, Christian’s aunt lives right outside of London and was kind enough to let us stay for the weekend. While at her house, we talked about the healthcare that we were learning about in Scotland and thereafter the healthcare that she experiences in England. I found it very interesting to hear stories and learn about different healthcare systems that people over the globe experience. This made me change the way I think about America’s healthcare and a general visit to the doctor. I started to question certain aspects of each system and asked myself what I would do personally if I was to design my “perfect” healthcare system with the experience and knowledge that I gained on the program. The next morning, we headed to the Tower of London and joined a crowd being lead by a Yeoman Warder. Within this tour, the man taught us all about the history of the tower and shared stories of England’s past which also educated us about how England’s healthcare system has changed as the years progressed. Inside the Tower of London, there were several artifacts and objects on display for the public including this dragon. Outside the Tower of London, we got to experience inspection of the guards of the tower. Before leaving the Tower of London, we stopped inside the Crown Jewels to see all of the gleamy crowns and objects that have been throughout the royal names of England. On Sunday morning, we headed to Abbey Road to see where the famous Beatles posed for their classic album, “Abbey Road”. Before leaving, we took one final stop at the Camden Market in Camden Town. At the market, we experienced many different cultures and consumed several different kinds of food that were being offered through food trucks and mini restaurants. Finally, we headed down to the train station and made our way back to home of Scotland, Edinburgh!
