Hi, my name is Sarah Barnes and I am a junior from Pinehurst, North Carolina! I am a Psychology (B.S.) major with a neuroscience major. While I have not completely settled on what I want to do after graduation, I am interested in PA school or a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. I am a research assistant/phlebotomist in the Social Health and Neuroscience Lab this year assisting on two different studies. Our lab focuses on social psychoneuroimmunology which examines the relationship between social experiences, brain functioning, and the immune system. I think what has really elevated my love for my major is getting involved in research, talking with graduate students, and building a network with others who also share a similar passion. For the past two years, I have spent time as a respite care provider – one on one and in a group home setting working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities. I am on the Outreach committee for UNC Special Olympics Club. I am a Behavioral Companion volunteer in the Emergency Department Psychiatric Unit at the hospital. I also am on the Gender-Based Violence Prevention Student Advisory Group. Some of my hobbies include running, attending concerts, and cooking. I am super excited to be an ambassador and would love to chat with anyone who is interested!
