My name is Blake Sutherland and I am a Senior from Waxhaw, North Carolina. I am studying Neuroscience (B.S.) and Psychology (B.A.) with a minor in Medical Anthropology (which I cannot recommend enough for anyone wanting to go into medicine!). I am pre-med and believe the neuroscience major really sets you up perfectly for that path! As of right now, I am planning on applying to medical school following two gap years, where I intend on working in a clinical role and gaining some relevant experience. Currently, I am an undergraduate research assistant in the Robinson Lab at the Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies, analyzing the effects of adolescent intermittent ethanol exposure on behavioral flexibility and the brain. I am also completing a neuroscience honors thesis and have taken two NSCI 395 courses and would be happy to share any information about my experiences. I am on the UNC Women’s Club Soccer Blue team and am the president of the Fundraising Committee for UNC’s Habitat for Humanity as well as a member of Psi Chi, the Psychology National Honors Society. In my free time, I love listening to music, reading, and playing soccer or tennis with friends. I love meeting new people and if you have any questions about getting involved in research, the MCAT, medical anthropology, or anything else I would love to talk!
