Throughout the academic year, MEITE students complete different types of projects. This page is a collection of those projects, including ones where students have partnered with local organizations and businesses and others that they have done as part of their coursework. Each project is described, and the students who contributed to it are listed as well!

Please take a few moments to review them.

Product Development

A major component of the MEITE program is for students to gain experience through project-based learning assignments. Over the years, MEITE students have completed a range of projects. A sampling of these products are:

Spring 2024 | Hope NC

Partnering with organizations is a highlight of the MEITE program, and in the spring 2024 semester, MEITE students worked with Hope NC, a local non-profit with a mission to create inclusive learning communities for people with disabilities, to design an interactive map. For that work, students first worked to understand Hope NC’s needs for the interactive map and then worked to develop it. Through that process, the students engaged Hope NC’s staff for feedback, which they used to make improvements. Then, to conclude the project, the students made a presentation to Hope NC’s leadership.

Fall 2023 | Augmented Reality Books

Launched in the fall of 2024, MEITE students are engaged in a project to create immersive reading experiences for elementary-age students using augmented reality. MEITE students used large language models to help write the story, Adobe FireFly to create images for it, and Kaedim to convert the 2D images into 3D assets. Then they used Adobe Aero to package all the content – texts, 2D images, and 3D assets – as augmented reality. To access, the students captured a quick response (QR) code, so readers can scan the QR codes using the free Adobe Aero app for either iOS or Android devices to access the scene in augmented reality. Next, the students used Adobe Illustrator to layout their books, which were exported as PDFs. The 1st generation versions of these books can be downloaded below. Enjoy!

Fall 2020 & Spring 2021 | EdTech Connect NC

In 2019, North Carolina adopted the International Society for Technology in Education’s (ISTE) Standards for Students (ISTE, 2019). A team of MEITE students used the Design Thinking methodology to develop EdTech Connect NC, a website intended to support educators in integrating these standards into their instruction. Through iterative design, the students met with practicing teachers to identify their needs, which informed the design and content of this website. Next, they tested the website multiple times before launching it! The website has been well-received by educators in North Carolina and its design has been emulated by other organizations and companies creating resources for the ISTE standards.

Fall 2020 & Spring 2021 | Professional Developments for MetaMetrics Quantile and Lexile Tools

In the fall of 2020, the MEITE students enrolled in Seminar I partnered with MetaMetrics to design, develop, and deploy a professional development focused on the Quantile Framework, a tool to measure and support students’ mathematical skills. In the spring, a team of MEITE interns continued this work for the Lexile Framework, an internationally used tool for assessing and developing students’ reading abilities. Once created, MetaMetrics made final refinements to both professional developments before adding them to their Educator Academy. Both professional developments have been well-received by educators from around the world!
