The first pitched took place during the summer of 2017, and five MEITE students participated in it. We’ve included a brief overview of two projects that were presented at the event.
Jorge Pradilla – Entrepreneurship in Peace
Emprendimiento En Paz is a venture focused on working with local businesses and governments to train FARC rebels in creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Working with the Innovate Carolina Dreamers-Who-Do Program, Pradilla had the opportunity to travel to Colombia in 2017 to conduct the exploration phase of his final project for the MEITE program!
Jarrett Grimm Vavlitis – Education Innovation
Grimm-Vavlitis developed a tactile model to help visually impaired students develop computational thinking skills. It serves as a bridge between their tactile learning experience, the use of iPad VoiceOver screen reader, and provided auditory feedback only. Grimm Vavlitis used the iPad app, CodeQuest, that she developed with a team of classmates. The CodeQuest design is to be used to fully accessible to visually impaired students. The target learners age is between 5-7 years old. As an addition, 3D printed tactile learning objects will be used as a teaching tool to help students learn how to play CodeQuest.
