Video Essays in Classrooms: Ruchi Patel

I think that especially given today’s technologically savvy era, video essays have the potential to replace essays in specific classes. Although, I do not think traditional essays are going anywhere in our English and history classes, but, every now and then you get teachers and professors wanting to add their own twist on busy work for kids. Video essays allows for creativity and imagination which is why I think that they have such a strong prevalence. I think that the issues that will come from video essays is traditional and by the book teachers considering this kind of work illegitimate, however I believe that with the right facts and written components with the digital aspects as well, these video essays have a chance to very engaging and teachable. I think there is nothing considered illegitimate academic work if the work ethic and research is there. Just because you are putting work in different ways doesn’t mean its illegitimate, so I think that video essays have the potential in certain classes, however, we will never rid traditional essays.
