Video Versus Traditional Essay- Maggie Caudle

The main difference between a video and a traditional essay is that a video essay incorporates more visual aspects while a traditional one is usually made up of mainly words. This makes the visual essay much more three-dimensional and it is often easier to get the audience’s attention. This is evidenced by many young people getting their news from social media or their entertainment from sites like YouTube. For people who comprehend information better in a visual format, a video essay is a great idea.

My favorite video from today was “The Marvel Symphonic Universe”. I have always been a big fan of Marvel so this managed to keep my attention. I really liked the use of video clips from the movies and the narration throughout definitely made me more interested in what the video was saying. In contrast to the Instagram Activism article, I feel the video was able to employ different techniques to make the story interesting, while the article used mainly text and images. It was interesting to read, but I felt I was able to digest the video more easily.
