Video Versus Traditional Essay – Alan Dang

Video essays allow visuals to show us what they are talking about and to keep our interests. They also have someone telling us about the subject instead of us reading it ourselves. This allows the consumer to be more engaged in the material without losing interest if done correctly. You can also multitask while listening to a video instead of reading a traditional essay. Many people say they are visual learners so video essays allow them to better understand the subject with visuals. The “Instagram Activism” article talks about how graphic designs started and how they evolved in order to convey their message. I really enjoy the Marvelman video which also explain the origin of Marvelman and how he changed overtime to represent what modern superheroes would look like/act like. Marvelman is a message that shows people if superheroes were real, why would they go out of their way to help us and not treat us as inferior or “insects”.  Amazon Prime has 2 great shows that convey this message also called “Invincible” and “The Boys” that I really recommend. I kinda lost some attention while reading the article because it’s mainly just words and not much graphics while the Marvelman video kept my interest throughout the whole thing. I also learning about superheroes/Marvel more than the uses and history of graphic design.
