Parody & Satire – Yiran Xiao

This video called “K-POP WITH ZERO BUDGET!” is a parody of Blackpink’s music videos. The Youtubers try to imitate the clothing, facial expression, and the actions of the members in the music videos. Blackpink is proverbial for its expensive styling and powerful choreography. Instead of mimicking exactly the same clothes, the Youtubers choose to substitute daily commodities like plastic bags and rubber gloves to imitate. Pairing with the exaggerated facial expression and dance movements, it is very alike. The humor functions on the how people spend nothing but still represent a familiar situation in an exaggerated way. The video used the convention of original song as the background music to make fun of it. This is a compilation of several music video cuts. They were all presented so similar but in a very funny way. I think it is successful at commenting on the original concept because it restores the same scenes and adds some new elements to make the audience laugh.
