Youtube Thumbnail Draft Reflection – Riley Hatcher

For my Youtube Thumbnail draft, I decided for it to be a review of Ed Sheeran’s new song: Bad Habits. I am not too keen on it yet, as it is not the Ed I am used to! I designed it the way I did for humor, some contrast, and an aesthetic-like feel.

For example, I thought it’d be clever to poke some fun and draw attention to Ed’s vampire makeup with the silly makeup on my face. I hoped it would make my intended audience laugh and want to watch. In addition, I included the two aesthetic circles as a way of contrasting Ed’s other music to this song. I thought it would make my intended audience look as shocked or confused as me in the picture! Lastly, I included the stickers for (the eyes, question mark, and youtube logo) for a click-bait feel.

The audience I was hoping to reach out to is fans of Ed Sheeran and music lovers in general, especially the genre of pop or pop-folk.

Another approach I could have taken with this draft is, first, a better title. I could not think of anything else wittier. In addition, my face looks a little too fear-like or shocked. I think a softer confused expression would have still gotten my point across. Instead of using just one Ed picture in the background, I think I should have used more for further contrast. Some may not recognize him, as it is a side we do not usually see of him.
