Comparing Videos: Maggie Caudle

All four videos were very well-done video essays, but all managed to put their own spin on the project. They’re all pretty informational, but they vary quite a bit in the way they get their message across. I particularly liked the quirky black girl video, which was more of a vlog style and aimed to draw the audience in by talking directly too them. This video wasn’t too theatrical, but I loved the use of movie/TV clips and felt it was very straightforward but also interesting. The Little Women video was a really cool concept, and also aimed to share information/ideas with the audience, but this one seemed a little more educational than fun. The analysis was really good, but the explanation was basic and didn’t seem to attempt to relate to the audience in the way the first girl did (for example, the speaker never appears on camera). The Frank Ocean video also told a story, but it was done with a little more of a serious, professional tone. Instead of just explaining the topic, the author aims to play it up a bit by using very planned out language and a similar tone throughout. It definitely seems more professional, but not quite as relatable. The last one, about the painting, seems the most professional and theatrical. Although this one also tells a story, it does so in a very particular, stylized way. The tone, the music and the language all put an ominous tone on the video, unlike the other three.
