Lavik Response (Video Essays in the Classroom) | Peyton Metzler
This question was actually pretty difficult for me to answer and I went back and forth with my response. For sure, I can say, I believe a video essay is “legitimate” academic work. It takes time and understanding of a topic to create a video essay, which I see as the purpose of creating essays of any kind in general. I do, however, cannot see the video essay being as effective in other classes, as it is in this particular class. Some classes, especially, literary classes, are based upon writing and need writing as a basis. In English class, for example, writing is integral to the class content and therefore a traditional essay suits the content better.
