Parody & Satire – Tala Farah

No one dares make fun of a piece by the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, so I ended up just finding another video. Since it’s Monday and a new episode of the Bachelorette comes on tonight, it just felt right to choose SNL’s parody of the reality show “The Bachelor”: “Bland Man”.  In their version, they set it up the exact same way as the show, with several women fighting their way into a man’s heart. Regardless of the bland things the man says, like that he likes the daytime, the women automatically agree and act as if he’s said super insightful. This makes fun of the women in the series that tend to do the exact same thing. SNL does the funniest job showing how the women constantly interrupt each other’s time saying, “can I steal him for a sec?” and how they all start conversations the same by saying, “I like this”. The skit also comments on the franchise’s trouble with racism by only having one black woman and having the bland man say he’ll only keep her another week on the show because of her sad past. The SNL skit does a fantastic job commenting on the issues and hilarious tendencies of The Bachelor women.
