Song Sample Response – Tala Farah

The lucky song chosen by me today was “My Strange Addiction” (2019) from Billie Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? album. Any song created by Eilish is bound to be unique as the artist is known to keep people on their toes and using original sounds in most pieces. However, this song sticks out because it is Eilish admitting to the world her addiction of the television show The Office, so much that she samples the episode titled “How to Do the Scarn Dance” (season 7, episode 17, 2011). By using the sample, Eilish sets up the introduction to feel like one of the characters is speaking directly towards her. She again manipulates the sample towards the end of the song, having the character ask “did you like that?”. The sample certainly makes the song more entertaining and emphasizes her addiction to The Office.
