Streaming and DMR – Javier Serrato Rojas

I think streaming services have been a great factor in combating pirated art because as music and movies became digital it was simply easier to attain for a small cost than physical copies. However, I believe streaming has negatively impacted DMR because it hasn’t completely stopped the illegal duplication and distribution but has made the process easier. Streaming has given artist a platform in which their art is more accessible and pays the artists, however, majority of the money is made by streaming service and the amount distributed to artists has often been be criticized for being too little. I still believe owning media is important because there is still a lot of profit made. Although one might think that the accessibility to media on streaming services might make owning media seem meaningless, many court cases revolving licensing and the usage of other art includes large amounts of money settlements.
