Streaming and DRM | Peyton Metzler

I personally think the new addition of streaming music/tv/movies has definitely positively impacted the viewer. However, it is more difficult to say if it positively impacted DRM. Having any media you want at your fingertips constantly has made me wonder if fewer people feel the need to copy. DRM may be needed less in the context of streaming because no one needs a CD copy of their favorite movie, as CDs age out. I do not see it as important to physically “own” music/movie/tv anymore. I would rather be able to use a streaming platform to have access to all media rather than select media. This new interest in streaming does seem to impact remix/sampling though. With everyone gaining access to almost everything there is an overwhelming amount of remix/sampling possibilities. I think streaming opens the door for even more remix/sampling work to be done and created.
