Benjamin Response- Maggie Caudle

I definitely agree with Walter Benjamin’s statement that even perfect reproductions lack in their auras. His definition of the work’s “aura” is its presence in time and space, and it is true that although a reproduction can be done very well, it will never possess the same value as an original work as it was not an original idea. I agree with Benjamin that all work is reproducible, and mechanical reproduction can be a good thing in many aspects, but it is true that only the original is an authentic work of art. Any reproduction will ultimately be compared to the original, and cannot be considered its own entity. However, though they may not maintain the same “aura”, reproductions can definitely possess their own value, it just will not be the same.
