I completely agree with Benjamin’s assessment of mechanical reproduction. A mechanical reproduction may look virtually the same as an original, but it does not have the same intrinsic value. An original piece is more than what physically meets the eye, because it is also a capsule of “time and space” as Benjamin explains. This type of value can never be artificially or mechanically reproduced.
