YouTube Thumbnail Reflection – Tala Farah

For my YouTube Thumbnail draft, I just couldn’t help myself from trying to recreate anything Ariana Grande related. I remembered a particular video that reviewed Grande’s Positions album, so I used the thumbnail as inspiration to create my own version. The original thumbnail consisted of the album cover taking up the entire background (one on the left and another on the right) and YouTuber “KioshiWarrior” displayed three times in the center, each expressing a different emotion. There is no title on the thumbnail because the reactions she shows says it all.

When designing my thumbnail, I used the idea of the album cover being in the background but incorporated Grande’s other two albums, Sweetener and thank u, next, in addition to Positions. In doing so, the video is not limited to one album, giving me more ground to cover. Imitating KioshiWarrior, I was able to overlap three pictures of me in the center, each with a different reaction and pointing to a different album cover. In my thumbnail, I added a title, “Sampling throughout the Ari Eras,” because the purpose of the video does not come across clearly when leaving it without one, as done by KioshiWarrior.

In terms of audience, my thumbnail would attract those who are interested in Ariana Grande and who want to learn more about sampling in her last three albums. Other approaches that could have been taken would have been focusing on a single album like KioshiWarrior did or even choosing a specific song Grande has performed and comparing it to covers.
